Hi there,
my name is Selma Enders. I'm an acrylic painter based near the beautiful city Bonn in Germany.
I love painting since kindergarten. I'm a self-taught artist, I never had the chance to take any art course (except mandatory classes in school) but you know what they say: learning by doing.
I always took the time to practice, trying new ideas, and that eventually brought me here.
I like painting on canvas, yet I have discovered painting on glass and mirror in 2021. I love how you can create artificial depth and shadow plays by painting on these unusual surfaces and how the artwork thereby can interact with its environment and even with yourself.
I've got a Master's degree in neurosciences and l'm fascinated how art and sciences not only coexist but how they influence each other in the process of creative development of any kind. I am amazed how both art and science affect and reflect the perception of the world around us and how they seek to broaden our mind.
"Artists are like neuroscientists who explore - with specific tools - the capacities and potentialities of their 'artistic' brain."
(Art meets science: from aesthetics to neurosciences, S. Di Nuovo, 2020, doi: 10.7417/CT.2020.2227)
"Both art and science seek to explain - each with their own unique set of concepts and tools - the unknown. Both science and art often claim to seek the "truth".
(Brain and art, I. Segev et al, 2014, doi: 10.3389/fnhum.2014.0046)
With art I can express my feelings and ideas, freeing my sometimes chaotic brain. Sometimes, I combine my paintings with poetry, another form of art I dearly love.
On this website and on my IG account (@senders.art), I will share the steps on my artistic journey and I'd be happy to take you along the way.
Thank you for supporting me in my dreams!
All the best,
Selma
